Bennelong announces new global infrastructure capability

Bennelong Funds Management (Bennelong) today announced a partnership with new global infrastructure investment manager, 4 Corners Infrastructure (4 Corners). Bennelong’s newest boutique is a joint initiative between 4 Corners’ team members Michael Morrison, Sarah Shaw and Greg Goodsell and Bennelong.

4 Corners’ mandate is to invest in listed infrastructure companies from around the world; a value-driven, benchmark agnostic investor looking to run a concentrated investment portfolio of 30-60 stocks.

As co-founders of 4 Corners, Michael Morrison and Sarah Shaw will share the roles of Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer, supporting each other as they establish the business; each will also undertake the role of Global Portfolio Manager. Further strengthening the team’s skillset, the third Principal, Greg Goodsell, will fill the role of Global Equity Strategist.

Michael said the team was delighted their months of planning had come to fruition with the launch of their new business. “We’re thrilled to be able to use our collective experience managing listed infrastructure assets to launch our own boutique. We’ve been seeking a structure that would allow us to focus on creating quality investment outcomes for our clients without the day-to-day distractions of managing a business, and we can achieve this with the support and backing of the Bennelong team,” Michael said.

The team’s focus in the short term is to work closely with Bennelong to build their distribution and marketing strategy, with plans to launch the 4 Corners Global Infrastructure Fund in the second half of 2015.

Collectively, the team has decades of experience in the finance sector. Michael has worked for more than 25 years within the Australian and global infrastructure and utilities sectors. Prior to founding 4 Corners, he spent 20 years within the BZW/ABN AMRO/RBS franchise, most recently as Head of Equities Research (Australia and NZ) following 15 years as a number one rated analyst in the infrastructure and utilities sectors.

Sarah’s varied experience across accounting, commercial law, sell side and buy side research and portfolio management includes over 15 years working in the global listed infrastructure space, with particular expertise in emerging markets. Prior to founding 4 Corners, Sarah was most recently a senior member of the listed infrastructure team for AMP Capital Brookfield and one of the first employees of RARE Infrastructure.

Greg has over 30 years experience in global financial markets encompassing a diverse array of roles in asset management, investment banking, stock broking and treasury. He spent 10 years with BT Financial Group in both investment banking and the Australian equity team where he was responsible for listed Australian utility and infrastructure stocks. Prior to joining Michael and Sarah, Greg worked with Michael at RBS Australia (formerly ABN Amro Australia) as the Australian Equity Market Strategist.

Bennelong’s Chief Executive Officer, Craig Bingham, said the arrival of 4 Corners signalled the start of a new and exciting phase of growth for Bennelong. “I’m really pleased to welcome 4 Corners into our suite of boutiques. They’re a team of highly regarded, experienced investment managers and we’re looking forward to being able to support them in creating and distributing a market leading listed infrastructure product. They’re a quality addition to our existing suite of boutiques,” said Craig.

The team, which was initially called 4 Corners Infrastructure, adapted the new name, 4 Dimensions, in October feeling it better represented the breadth, depth and length of their scope.
